Rebel Hungarian priest faces Rome 'inquisition'

THEI REBEL Hungarian priest, Fr Gyorgyi Bolan)i. leader of the basic Christian communities in the country, has been called to Rome to meet with Cardinal Joseph Holzinger, Prefect of Ihe Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
No date has yet been released for the meeting, hot Fr Bnlanyi will be asked to clarify his viewpoint on certain theological matters, and justify his criticisms of the government and angarian bishops.
Fr Bulanyi, who spent nine years in prison in the 1950s for promoting "illegal organisations" of youth, became an extremely popular leader of basic Christian communities in Hungary in the 1970s. However, his total opposition to the government, which prompted his followers to refuse to do military service, and his criticisms of the hierarchy brought him into conflict with the bishops. Cardinal Laszlo Lekai has refused to ordain those favourable to Fr Bulanyi, and the rebel priest was forbidden for exercising his priestly functions in 1981.
