DIOCESE BUILDS FACTORY
By, Mgr Cyril Taylor IVERPOOL is shortly to have
, a new factory, but it will be one with a difference. It is to be built on the Cathedral site at Brownlow Hill and will give employment to about 200 men. In it will be made the pre-cast concrete sections to be used in the building.
Commenting on the plan, the architect, Mr. Frederick Gibberd, said: "The Cathedral has got to be an expressive building, but it is really 3 dynamic, realistic programme to be tackled just as a nuclear power station would be."
It has now been made known that John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens have been commissioned to design the glass for the central lantern tower. They designed and made the stained glass for the baptistery window in Coventry Cathedral. This may result in a second temporary factory being erected on the site, in which the glass will be made.
