Battersea Salesians' centenary

HE direct link between the Sacred Heart Church in Trott Street, West Battersea, London, and St., John Bosco, founder of the Salesians, was stressed during the church's centenary celebrations on Sunday.
The parish was established by the Salesians. A former provincial. Fr. T. W. Hall, recalled that they came to found West Battersea Catholic Mission after an appeal from Bishop Butt of Southwark to John Bosco.
Fr. Hall paid tribute to the men and women who pioneered the parish, mainly the families of Irish labourers working for the poorest of wages.
More than 30 priests joined in the concelebration of Mass to mark the centenary. The principal concelebrant was the Auxiliary Bishop-elect of Southwark. Mgr. Charles Henderson.
