These are parishes to watch

Reporter
LOYALTY Dinner ", to which Cardinal Godfrey had been invited, was being held last night (Thursday) in Southgate, North London, to launch a novel church-fund raising scheme. The Cardinal left earlier this week for Rome to attend the functions connected with the naming of the new Cardinals.
The scheme, thought out in Canada where bishops and priests have commended it, has, so I am told by Mr. H. E. C. Drinjcs, head of the firm organising it, the approval of our own Cardinal, of the Archbishop of Liverpool, and of the Bishop of Clifton.
Two more
The parishioners of Potters Bar (about 800) were being invited at parish expense to last night's dinner. Their parish priest, Fr. R. V. Berry, is the first to have signed up contracts with the organisers (Cathos Ltd., of Toronto) for a thorough parish canvass destined to double. or even treble, the actual parochial income.
Two other Westminster Diocese parishes, so Mr. Brinjes informs me, are also engaging his services, Whitton and Hoddesdon.
When Fr. Berry signed his contract with Cathos Ltd., a Director of the firm took up residence in the parish, where he is now thoroughly investigating the parish accounts, and preparing a panel of apostolically-minded men who are shortly to start calling on parishioners.
These volunteers will meet husband and wife together, and persuade them to pledge themselves (no moral or legal obligation attached) to a fixed weekly donation. At Sunday Mass there will be one collection only, comprising the sealed envelopes containing the amount pledged.
The fees
The fees payable to Cathos Ltd., vary according to the size of the parish, which in the ease of Potters Bar amount to one thousand guineas, plus expenses, which may reach about another £900
Mr. Brinjes is British. He emigrated to Canada some years ago, where he has been closely associated with similar campaigns. Cathos Ltd., ("Catholic Associates"), has been registered in England too. It works exclusively in Catholic dioceses and parishes.
One of its recent successes was a fund-raising canvass for the whole of the diocese of Saint John. New Brunswick. In a personal letter of thanks sent to Mr. Brinjes by the Bishop in December last, the sum given as having been pledged for diocesan projects is $1.378.007, nearly £500,000.
