42 bishops find two priorities

BISHOP Gerald Moverley of Hallam was unable to attend the four-day conference of the bishops of England and Wales laq week. because he was still recovering froI operation.
Bishop Cyril Restieaux of Plymouth was also absent from the meeting of 42 bishops at Archbishop's House, Westminster. Bishop Augustine Hornyak, Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in Great Britain, had to leave after one day, for a meeting in Rome. Bishop Edward Rapallo of Gibraltar attended as an observer, following an established practice.
The bishops met under the presidency of Cardinal Hume. The two main items on the agenda were unity and peace, which they had found were the two points which the Pope had stressed in his visit to Britain. One of their first acts was to send a telegram of thanks to the Pope, as reported in last week's Catholic Herald. They also threw their weight behind the fight by Hopwood Hall college of higher education against a government plan to end teacher training there.
