Abortion is murder

—says Cardinal A PROPOSAL that abor tion on request should be legalised was bitterly attacked last week by Cardinal O'Boyle, Archbishop of Washington. He said: "Abortion is murder. That is the issue."
He was commenting on recommendations made by a committee District of Columbia General Hospital seeking supplementary appropriations from Congress to improve the hospital's services.
They included a proposal for easing the anti-abortion law in Washington by permitting an abortion to he performed on any woman who requested one.
Cardinal O'Boyle's statement went on: "1 do not say abortion is legal murder — the law has never been consistent enough to recognise the full truth. But abortion is morally the same as any other murder.
NAZI PARALLEL
"And Anglo-American law always has recognised that abortion is a grave crime against ihe human life of the unborn. To permit abortion now would simply he to decide that it is expedient for some to die for the welfare of the rest of us.
"If any woman has a right to have an abortion, poor women would have the same right. But no one has a right to an abortion, no more than any parent has a right to kill his infant after it is born.
"Birth is no magic dividing line that separates the prehuman from the truly human. The unborn child is as much a person — a living human individual — as any of us."
Cardinal O'Boyle likened the abortion proposal to Hitler's solution for the Jewish problem in Nazi Germany, to those who traded in slaves, and to settlers who killed off American Indians and stole their lands.
Christian clergy address Moslems
ACATHOLIC priest and a Protestant minister addressed a religious meeting in a mosque in the Hague last week, organised by the Ahmediyya movement of Islam to celebrate the end of the fast of Ramadan.
Moslem leaders said the meeting, in the Mobarak Mosque—the only one in Holland—was a breakthrough in relations between Christian and non-Christian religions. It was attended by scores of Moslems living in or visiting the Netherlands.
