CONGRATULATIONS to Jim Coffey, editor of our sister paper the Scottish Catholic Observer, on his 36-page colour] centenary edition this week. It contained messages from the Pope, the Queen, and the Prime Minister.
Glasgow City Council honoured Jim and the directors with a civic reception for over 300 people which was attended by the Scottish Bishops.
Archbishop Thomas Winning, other bishops, and a larger number of priests who actively assist the vital work of the paper for the Catholic Community in Scotland concelebrated a special centenary Mass of Thanksgiving in St Aloysius Church in Glasgow.
Blairs College, Aberdeen, celebrated a special Mass for the intentions of the staff and rector Fr Keith O'Brien has ordered a copy of the centenary issue for every student at the College as a souvenir of this historic occasion.
Jim Coffey, editor of the Scottish Catholic Observer for the past eight years, is a parishioner of the Sacred Heart parish of Bellshill, he was educated at Our Lady's High School, Motherwell, and by the Verona Fathers at Mirfield in West Yorkshire, and studied philosophy at Sunningdale in Berkshire.
He has been in Catholic journalism since 1969, arid was appointed editor of the "Scottish Catholic Observer" in 1977.
We wish him many more successful years in the editorial chair.
