Pope Pius and Jews

I read with interest the two pieces by Christopher Hollis and Fr J. H. Crehan, Si (Sept. 26), on the book by Gitta Sereni, "Into That Darkness." I believe it is important to submit the following for the record.
I don't mind her mis-spelling my name, only one of various egregious errors in the book, but the authoress makes a great deal of an allegedly suppressed letter of Ambassador Casimir Papee submitted to the Vatican in December 1942 on the plight of Polish Jews.
Unfortunately for Miss Sereni, the said "missing" letter appears in fact at its appointed place in Volume 8 of the series of which I am co-editor, ',fetes a documents du Saint sage relattfs la Seconde Guerre. Mondlale (Vatican City, 1974, p. 755). Having made up her mind already, she was too pressed to find a justification.
This elementary blunder, compounded by the elaborate conclusion she draws from the mistake, would make a serious scholar blush. It is a measure of the immaturity she brought to the work in the first place. Robert A. Graham, SJ Via di Porta Pinciana 1, Rome, Italy.
