Why do I feel so down when my faith should life me up? by Grant Mullen MD, Sovereign World, Tunbridge Wells, £9.99. Depression has been called the "common cold of psychological disorders"; its incidence has massively increased over the past decade. Here a Canadian doctor offers a biblical perspective on the problem. He discusses a wide range of possible medications and therapies, but also recommends that sufferers "ask God to show you the ungodly soul ties that are controlling you or by which you control others".
The Redemption of Satan by Norman R C Dockeray, The Book Guild £8.95. The author, an Anglican in his late 90s, argues in this provocative book that Satan is winning many battles in the world today. His new weapons include "the error of regarding science as a panacea". The foreword is by Dr Elaine Storkey. The Catholic Prayer Book, compiled by Mgr Michael Buckley, Darton, Longman & Todd £8.95. A treasury of Catholic prayers, including the Eucharistic prayers of the Mass and prayers for the dead. It is endorsed by Cardinal Hume and Cardinal O'Connor of New York. The latter describes it as "a fine attempt to re-establish a venerable Catholic tradition, namely the personal prayerbook, a valuable companion for every Catholic interested in personal prayer".
