We should have an annual interfaith day

From Sir Sigmund Sternberg, cofounder of the Three Faiths Forum SIR — With regard to your report (April 4), I should like to add that, when visiting New York this week, Pope Benedict XVI will also be visiting a synagogue in New York, led by a rabbi who survived the Holocaust. This will be the third visit by any pope to a synagogue. I had the privilege of accompanying the late Pope John Paul II, when he took part in a synagogue service at the main synagogue in Rome and used the occasion to refer to the Jewish people as "our elder brother".
I am glad that Pope Benedict will be meeting with representatives of other faiths as well while in Washington and am hopeful that the Vatican will establish an annual Nostra Aetate Day which will help further relations with all faiths.
Yours faithfully, SIGMUND STERNB ERG London NW5
