Diplomat for Privy Council

SIR MICHAEL Palliser, who was Head of the Diplomatic Service from 1975 until his retirement last year, has been appointed a Privy Councillor in the Birthday Honours list.
He is among a number of Catholics to receive honours in the list, which also includes Sir Anthony Williams, who was British Ambasador in Buenos Aires up to the time of the Argentinian invasion of the Falkland Islands, and Air Marshal Sir William Knight, both of whom receive knighthoods.
Other Catholics to receive honours include: CB: Major-General M F Reynolds; Rear-Admiral J K Robertson.
CMG: R M Purcell, H M Ambassador Mogadishu.
CBE: Michael Kelly, Lord Provost of Glasgow; William Kendall, lately SecretaryGeneral Council of Civil Service Unions.
