New campaign on abortion pill

by Joanna Moorhead PRO-LIFERS are to step up their campaign against the manufacturers of the "abortion pill", which is now licensed for use in Britain.
The anti-abortion group Life will this week unveil details of its plan to organise a boycott of products manufactured by Roussel-Uclaf, the company which makes the abortion drug RU486. A detailed list of alternative drugs to frequentlyprescribed Roussel preparations will be sent to doctors who have agreed to take part in the action.
In addition, a guide on how to avoid Roussel drugs has been prepared for patients who would rather not be treated with the company's products. The guide suggests concerned patients should • ask their doctor not to prescribe the company's drugs for them or their family
• find out whether they are being treated with Roussel drugs and, if they are, ask for the drugs to be exchanged for non-Roussel products
• ask chemists not to dispense any Roussel drug for their use.
Life campaigns' co-ordinator Keith Davies and Pauline Connor of the group Feminists Against Eugenics are to tour the country this week taking part in seminars and press conferences at which they will explain the group's campaign against Roussel. Mr Davies said RU486 was a "chemical abuser of women and the killer of unborn children".
He said use of the drug would increase the incidence of postabortion syndrome.
• THE Irish-based organisation Women Hurt By Abortion has set up three groups in England.
The groups, based in London, Bristol and Southampton, will help care.'for girls and women who have had an abortion and are in distress as a result.
Founded in Cork in 1987, the organisation now has 15 groups in Ireland.
