Bishops discuss mixed marriages

THE Bishops of England and Wales met at Archbishop's House, Westminster, this week and, although no agenda was issued, the question of mixed marriages is believed to have been discussed.
Earlier this year Cardinal Heenan gave a public assurance that the points raised by The 83 delegates representing 5,000 secular clergy at the conference at Wood Hall. Yorkshire. in June would be considered by the bishops at. the October meeting.
Among these points were the possibility of ordainihg married men; more discussion of the nature of celibacy; an inquiry into the conditions in which some priests have to live; greater co-responsibility between parish priests and curates; and a general reappraisal of the Church's mission in this country.
