up and up
An increase of 600,000 in the number of children attending U.S. Catholic elementary and high schools in the next eight years is foreseen in estimates by the Education Department of the National Catholic Welfare Conference.
The figure will then be, by 195758, an all-time peak of nearly three and a half million.
The U.S. Office of Education estimated that approximately 93 per cent. of all non-State-financed elementary school enrolments are accounted for by Catholic schools.
