The Legion Of Mary Has 8,000 Members

Westminster Cathedral Hall was packed to overflowing on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Dec. 8, for the Annual General Reunion for members of the Legion of Mary in the London area. Active and auxiliary members were present from the Westminster, Brentwood and Southwark Dioceses.
In an interesting review of the Legion during the past year at home and abroad it was stated that there are now 8,000 Active members, and 850 Praesidia in England and Wales.
CONVERSION WORK
Conversion work is now a great feature of Legion life and is being undertaken all over the country. Leeds have a weekly series of talks for non-Catholics, and in Bir
mingham talks are held five nights a week in different parts of the city. A special Conversion Congress was held in Liverpool and in Birmingham.
Visitation of lodging houses. prisons as well as of homes is part of Legion activities. At the National Congress at Digby-Stuart College, Roehampton,
at Whitsuntide the Legion welcomed Archbishop Godfrey, the Apostolic Delegate, to a session. This was the first National Congress since 1941 and the first three-day Legion Congress held in this country.
Cardinal Griffin has visited the headquarters of the Legion in England and blessed the room used for Senatus and other meetings. Recent visitors to the Legion office have included the Spiritual Director of the Senatus of Ceylon, and Legionaries front Burma and the Gold Coast. it was noticed that where in any area the sexes are equally balanced. the Legion is usually most successful.
