study on
population
BY A STAFF REPORTER A REQUEST that they should set up a group of experts to study the population situation has been made to the Pontifical Justice and Peace Commission by the new Commission for International Justice and Peace of the Episcopal Conference of England and Wales.
The commission made their request in view of the United Nations World Population Year and Conference in 1974, so that a fully-informed Catholic contribution could be made.
The commission also decided at their meeting at the Sacred Heart Convent, Putney, to place special emphasis on Northern Ireland in preparing for the Pope's theme for the 1973 World Day of Peace.
IRELAND AND EUROPE Background material on the problems of conflict in Ireland will be circulated to parishes, and delegates from every diocese and representatives of Catholic organisations will meet at • two conferences, in Manchester and London, later this month, to discuss the programme.
After a discussion of the implications of Britain's imminent entry into the Common Market, support was pledged for the Europe '73 Campaign sponsored by the World Development Movement — a campaign which aims to focus public attention on the im plications for the less developed countries raised by the enlargement of the EEC.
