A flag day at Banbury in aid of the C.W.L. huts and canteens for 11.M. Forces realised £93 16s.
The Rev. Bro. Leo, M.A., Dip. Ed., has been named headmaster of St. John's College. Southsea. Hants, in succession to the Rev. Bro. David, M.A.
The Crusade of Rescue will again benefit from the Princess Elizabeth Day appeal to be made on Saturday, September 23, in the London City and Metropolitan areas.
The Archbishop of Birmingham distributed the prizes at the swinuping gala at Kent Street Baths, Birmingham, last Saturday (September 9) in which boys and girls from all parts of the city competed The centenary of the coming of the Faithful Companions of Jesus to Liverpool will be celebrated on Friday, September 29, when Archbishop Downey will preside at High Mass in the church of St. Patrick. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress will attend.
There has been a good response to the appeal made in Birmingham recently for boys for St. Chad's choir—said to be the oldest Catholic choir in the country. Fourteen boys have come forward and they arc to be enrolled in the near future.
At a meeting of the Magnifieut Society at St. Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham, on Friday. September 8, Fr. J. D. Crichton gave an address on the aims and ambitions of the Society. Anyone who wishes to know about the Society with a view to joining should communicate with Miss M. Powell, of 62, Adria Road. Sparkhill, who is now the hon. secretary.
Service canteens and huts will continue to operate for two years after the cessation of hostilities, Miss Graham, of London, told Sunderland and District C.W.L. at a meeting in the Town Hall, Sunderland, last week. To meet the expenditure already incurred by the C.W.L. canteens and huts, and to assure them of the financial backing necessary to keep them going. the meeting decided to hold a house-to-house collection and flag day during the week October 23 to October 28.
One of three brothers who are priests, Fr. Anthony Hulme, of Northampton Cathedral, has gained an Honours Degree in Sociology at London University. He studied forsthe degree during his vacation, and actually look the examination while flying bomb alerts were sounding. He was the only " outside " candidate. He is already a licentiate of Sacred Theology at the Gregorian University in Rome. His twin brother is the Rev. Gerard Ifulme, and anothei brother, the Rev. Leonard HOLM, i% at Astley Bridge, Bolton. All three were " late vocations."
