vR. MAXIMILIAN KOLBE. -11 a Polish Franciscan friar and prisoner in the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz, is to he beatified in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, on Sunday. He died in Auschwitz after taking the place of another prisoner condemned to die.
Fr. Kolbe's cause for canonisation opened in 1948. and Pope Paul will take part in the beatification ceremony. This has been timed to keep the example of "the perfect priest" before the present synod of Bishops.
