Christian gays unite in Cathedral service

By PtRRS MCGRANDLE
CATHOLICS WILL BE among those attending this weekend's controversial gay and lesbian service, to be held in Southwark's Anglican Cathedral. The Roman Catholic Caucus is to hold a Symposium during the day-long festival celebrated by the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM). The Caucus, known to be more radical than the Catholic group Quest, hopes the Church will listen to how openly gay Catholic men and women are trying to "live their lives with integrity".
Fr John Breslin, a parish priest in the Motherwell Diocese, has been invited to be the final speaker at the Symposium. He will be reacting to the contributions of founding member Anne C,oldie; David Smith, editor of Gay Times; Vincent Manning and Lala Winkley.
Cathedral staff have come under fire for allowing the LGCM to hold their concluding religious service there. Anne Atkins, an evangelical vicar's wife, spoke out on Radio 4's Thought for the Day, condemning their involvement in the event.
In response, the Cathedral said that it "has a tradition of identifying with people who suffered from the prejudices of society".
