PRAYERS for unity between Eastern Christians and Catholics as fellow venerators of the Virgin Mary is one of the ways of marking the approaching year of devotion to the Mother of God says a letter from the Vatican's Committee for the Marian Year, out this month.
Head of the Committee Cardinal Dadaglio says in the letter that the Marian Year, which runs from June 7, 1987 to August 15, 1988 is aimed at 'getting "an understanding of the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of her mission in the saving mystery of Christ and the Church."
Further ideas for celebration include the study of Marian teachings, liturgy with a Marian theme and pilgrimages to Marian shrines.
