Boy's torso prompts new 'Satanic abuse' fears

BY SIMON CALDWELL
A DISTINGUISHED Catholic peer has agreed to chair a meeting set up to launch a campaign for the public recognition of widespread Satanic ritual abuse In Britain.
Lord Alton of Liverpool will preside over the private event in the Houses of Parliament next Thursday, which will also mark the political launch of Attachment, Trauma and Multiplicity, a new book by Valerie Sinason, a psychotherapist who claims to have treated hundreds of alleged victims of "extreme sadistic abuse" by Satanists.
The meeting was arranged by Methodist human rights campaigner Wilfred Wong, who is convinced there are many people in Britain who are "literally getting away with ritual abuse and ritual murdet'.
"We are probably talking about at least hundreds and maybe thousands," said Mr Wong. "Among the things we are calling for is more training for the police. recognition in the law of a specific crime of ritual abuse. and more recognition by the Government and the police that these crimes are occurring. Lord Alton said ritual abuse had to be taken seriously because it was evident in the murder of a five-year-old black boy whose torso was found in the River Thames in London in September.
"I have an open mind and I am prepared to hear the arguments," he said. "I am not a sceptic but I still need to be convinced about the scale and seriousness of this."
Besides Miss Sinason, Lord Alton and Mr Wong, the meeting will be attended by Dr Joan Coleman of the Ritual Abuse Information Network and
