Carnacho Allows Mexico to Celebrate a Midnight Mass

About 600,000 Mexicans, residents of Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel Allende and Leon. participated in a recent pilgrimage to the hill of Cubilete, the geographical centre of Mexico, when midnight Mass was celebrated there for the first time before the statue of Christ the King. The celebrant was the Rev. Estanislao Velazquez, of Guanajuato.
This holding of a religious service outside a church edifice was made possible through the interpretation of the law by the Government of President Manual Avila Camacho.
Last month, by decision of President Avila Camacho, the church of La Pastore, in the City of Vera Cruz, was restored to worship. All other churches in the city had been reopened for worship previously. The return of this edifice to its parishioners had presented " certain difficulties " because Governor Adalberto Tejeda in 1931 had assigned it to the Communists as a meeting place.
