CATHOLIC HOLIDAYS

As was mentioned in last week's issue, Catholic Holidays and Travel Ltd., of 39, St. James's Street, London, S.W.1, is taking over the business and goodwill of N.T.A. Ltd.. Mr. Harry W. Wallack remains as secretary and manager of the new company, which is arranging a cornprehensive programme for holidays and pilgrimages this year.
There are facilities for visiting Rome every month from Easter to October, including an interesting motor-coach tour in September which visits, among other places, the shrine of St. Bernadette at Nevers, the chapel of the apparitions at Paray-le-Monial, the Cathedral and leaning tower of Pisa, the Franciscan sanctuaries of Assisi, the Cathedral of Florence, St. Mark's, Venice, the shrine of St. Anthony of Padua, and the wonderful old town of Auxerre, intimately connected with the early ecclesiastical history of England.
In the Footsteps of Ste. Therese
Two pilgrimages to Rome are unique. The first, which leaves on March 30, is to take part in the International Pilgrimage to Rome on April 1-7, to pray for Christianity in view of the menace of Cornmunism at the present time. The idea of this pilgrimage came from Sister Agnes, of the Carmel at Lisieux, who hopes that pilgrims from all countries will gather together in Rome at the time of the fiftieth anniversary of the pilgrimage made by her sister, Ste. Therese. The inclusive fares for the British section are from £12 15s., according to class of travel.
A workers' third-class pilgrimage takes place on July 20-29, and includes visits both to Rome and to Rapallo. The object of the pilgrimage is to put Rome within the reach of those of humble means who hitherto have been unable to afford the journey. The inclusive fare speaks for itself: it is only ten guineas.
National Pilgrimage to Lisieux
One Archbishop and six Bishops have already notified their intention of travelling with the first National Pilgrimage from this country to the shrine of the "Little Flower of Lisieux, next September. The fare is only £4 7s. 6d., and reservations have been effected on a large scale at Lisieux to meet the requirements of the great numbers who are expected to take part.
Other arrangements are made for Lisieux every week-end from April to October.
There is also a large pilgrimage to Lourdes and Lisieux combined, in August, and, here again, alternative arrangements are made for third-class travel throughout at the low figure of only £7 7s., while during the season a number of smaller parties will travel by day only, visiting Paris, Lourdes and Lisieux at an inclusive fare of £12 15s., Contact with German Catholics The firm and dignified joint pastoral ofthe German Hierarchy must have given new life and courage to the Catholics of Germany. Catholic Holidays and Travel Ltd., wishes to put the most Catholic parts of Germany within the reach of Catholics at home, offering holiday tours at exceptionally low prices to visit the Rhineland, the Black Forest, Bavaria and the Tyrol, with extensions even as far as Prague, Vienna and Budapest. The company is also making elaborate preparations in connection with the International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest in 1938.
A Visit to Canada
A Catholic party to Canada is projected for July by the ss. Athenia, well-known already to the many who have travelled by her in recent years on the sea route to Lourdes. Among places visited will be the famous pilgrimage shrine of Ste. Anne de Beaupre.
The Portuguese Lourdes There will be two parties to Lisbon, in May and in September, travelling by sea from London, and visiting not only Lisbon, with its English College, but also Mont 'Estoril, Cintra, and the now famous shrine of Our Lady at Fatima on May 13, to take part in the national celebrations on the twentieth anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady.
Three Catholic Cruises The popular traditions of N.T.A. Ltd., will be well maintained in the matter of Catholic cruises for the holidays. There are three in 1937. the first on June 26 to Lisbon. Madeira, Teneriffe, and Gibraltar; the second on July 25, to Iceland, the North Cape, Norwegian Fjords, Bergen and Hamburg, and the third on August 21, to Gibraltar, Monte Carlo and Tangier. Probably the most popular will be that to the "Land of the Midnight Sun." Efforts have been made to arrange dates suitable for teachers in different parts of the country.
