Maltese to open new Centre

By Fr. A. Said Pullicino
ANFW Maltese Catholic Centre will be opened in London shortly after Faster Catering for the 12,000 strong Maltese community. it will eventually replace the small centre at Lillington Street, Victoria. There will be two hostels, one for men, the other for girls, a large hall for social activities, a church and two convents.
The £15.000 building at 154 East India Dock Road, Poplar, was allocated for the Centre by the late Cardinal Godfrey. The necessary modifications to convert the building, however, will add over £6,000 to the original cost.
The church, to be known as St. Paul and St. Francis. will be the first National Maltese Church in London. The hall is to be named after Cardinal Godfrey.
Fr. Dominic Coppola. 0.F.M., who is in charge of the Maltese Catholic Centre, has been helping Maltese immigrants in London for the past 12 years. The new hostel will be cared for by four Maltese Franciscan fathers and a community of Franciscan Sisters of Malta.
