STAUNCH CATHOLIC'S DEATH.— Mrs Sarah E. Strand has died at the age of seventy-eight in Whitehaven, Cumberland. She lived all her life in a showman's caravan. She was a staunch Catholic and a good showwoman.
SACRED ART EXHIBITION.— Preparations for the 1942 Vatican International Sacred Art Exhibition have been resumed despite the war.
CHURCHES SUBSIDISED. — Mussolini has provided 22 million lire to subsidise public buildings in Italy. Part has been allocated to the building or repairing of churches, notably in the case of the cathedrals of Florence, Pisa and Como, and the church of St. Catherine in Siena.
