Pro-life group clerk honoured

LEAD1NU CAI HOLIC politicians turned out at a Mass to mark the 20th anniversary of the. founding of the All-Party Parliamentary Pro-life Group.
Mass was celebrated in the Crypt Chapel of St Mary Undercroft by Jesuit Fr Anthony Meredith. It was attended by the Speaker of the House of Commons Michael Martin, by members of both Houses of Parliament and by many of the group's longstanding supporters outside I 'arliarnent.
The group gave thanks for the work of its former clerk, Christopher Whitehouse, who stepped down alter almost 20 years' service. At the Mass he was formally presented with a Papal Award, Knight of St Gregory, for his work.
Lord Alton of Liverpool, one of the group's founders. said: "Christopher has given 20 years of faithful service to the All-Party Parliamentary Pro-life Group. His contribution to the group's work has been immense. Nothing is more important than the right to life and Christopher has always made this belief his central priority."
Mr Whitehouse said afterwards he was "delighted".
