Arinze greets buddhists

CARDINAL Francis Arinze appealed to Buddhists to join Catholics to promote objective moral values, in a message marking the anniversary of Buddha's birth, the most important Buddhist celebration of the year.
Cardinal Arinze, president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue, wrote: "Our world is marked by numerous painful and alarming conditions which are often the results of selfishness and greed on the part of us humans.
"Building on the friendly relations which already exist between our two religious traditions both at the global and the local level, cannot Buddhists and Christians collaborate more closely and work in solidarity to alleviate these problems?
"It is my firm conviction that this is possible."
Cardinal Arinze will lead a meeting of the leaders of the principal world religions in Rome from October 24-29.-Zenit
