Seeking evidence
From Angela Grace); SIR In her article on the Spanish elections Fiona Flores Watson (March 7) makes an assertion for which she provides no evidence: namely that in the 40 years or so since the Civil War "Franco was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Spanish, to some extent with the Church's approval."
Having lived in Spain in that period, among Spaniards of all classes am political persuasions, including journalists, none of whom ever complained about (or even mentioned) mass killings.I would like to know what evidenceshe has for anything other than the vert limited judicial executions of proven murderers, in line with the practice in every country which had capital punishment at that time.
Yours faithfully. ANGELA GRACEY Windlesham, Surrey
