New Cathechism `surprisingly orthodox

FR HERBERT McCabe, the controversial priest who was removed from the editorship of New Blackfriars in 1967 for attacking the Church has written an entirely non-controversial New Catechism of Christian Doctrine.
The Catechism, published by the Catholic Truth Society, is due to be launched next week. it has been described by one Canon Lawyer as "a pleasing and surprisingly orthodox presentation of the faith."
Fr McCabe was educated at Manchester University and went through the normal Dominican studies at Hawkesyard and Oxford.
In the editorial columns of the February 1967 issue of New Blackfriars, the chief literary organ of the English Dominican province, Fr McCabe denounced the Church as "quite plainly corrupt". He was removed from the editorship by the Master General of the Dominicans and suspended from his priestly duties.
Following representations made by friends in London and Cambridge Fr McCabe's priestly functions were restored within a few days.
