The Tyrol

FOR a long time there has been no weaker spot in Hitler's selfdefensive armour than the problem of the South Tyrol.
The problem is at long last to be solved by a somewhat obscure process of repatriation.
Germany's critics will have no difficulty in pointing out that if Hitler was satisfied to leave the Tyrolese so long under Italian rule and will now accept a solution by repopulation, the problem of Germans elsewhere outside the Reich cannot • be as terrible as he makes out.
The argument is not altogether fair, since Hitler could retort that the Tyrolese were ruled by Germany's friends, not foes. But at least the case of the Tyrol does show that a settlement without conflict of the problem of German minorities can be reached where there is an understanding between Germany and her neighbours.
