Mgr Martin Campbell HEXHAM AND NEWCASTLE diocesan priest and former Vicar-General Martin Campbell died on 30 April at the age of 85.
Ordained at Ushaw by Bishop Thorman in July 1934 he was appointed as assistant priest at St Mary's, Stockton, for six years, then St Joseph's, Gateshead, for 12 years. In 1952 he became parish priest at St Francis of Assisi, Walker, for the next 40 years until his retirement in 1991.
He became a Vicar General for the diocese in October 1969, was made Canon in 1971, and re-appointed VicarGeneral in 1975 until his retirement.
Fr Michael O'Donoghue MICHAEL O'DONOGHUE was born in Scartaglen, Co Kerry, in August 1910, and educated by the Christian Brothers at Tralee. He studied for the priesthood at St Patrick's College, Thurles, and was ordained in June 1934 at St Mary's Cathedral, Thurles.
He moved to serve in the Liverpool diocese, becoming assistant priest then parish priest at St Teresa's, Sutton Manor, St Helens. In 1959, he became parish priest at Holy Ghost, Ford, and in 1973 at St Elizabeth's, Litherland. He retired in 1978 and lived at Nazareth House, Crosby, until his death on 27 April.
Fr John Gleeson BORN IN IRELAND IN 1920, John Gleeson studied for the priesthood at All Hallow's, Dublin. After ordination, he moved to England to serve in the Southwark Archdiocese.
He served as assistant priest in Deptford for four years, then in Walworth for 13 years, after which he became parish priest at Rainham for ten years.
Between 1973 and his retirement in 1985, he was parish priest at St Thomas More, Bostall Park. He lived in retirement in Killarney, Ireland, and died following a short illness on 30 April.
Br David Poulton FSC DE LA SALLE BROTHER David Leo Poulton died last month. Born in Southsea in 1906, he joined the order after education at St John's College and Guernsey. Between 1923-66, he was involved in formation at Dover, Assington and Basingstoke. For ten years he was personal secretary to the order's Superior General, Br Charles Henry, in Rome, then became Secretary to the Union of Superiors General. In 1982, he became De La Salle provincial in London, until the merger of the order's two English provinces in 1991. He moved to Oxford, continuing editorial work for the order's publications until his death.
