Help the Aged has attacked a Government proposal that fuel should be taken out of the retail price index on which pensions are based. The charity said that such a move could lead to more old people dying of hypothermia during the winter. Mr Hugh Faulkner, Director of Help the Aged, that food and fuel were pensioners' two most important items of expenditure and that pension increases were to be calculated in future to keep in line with price rises. the said
