Sir,—The CATHOLIC HERALD'S account of the very welcome news of Alec Guinness' reception into the Church gives the impression that his career has been entirely devoted to the cinematograph. Mr. Guinness was an extremely distills guished stage actor long before he was known to cinema audiences, and his film performance of The Prisoner had already met with great acclaim in the theatre.
Is not this omission a little sign of the times?
With the Catholic Press, no less than with the secular, the theatre is now the Cinderella of the entertainment world. We can read regularly of radio and television. and count on a sizeable article on films; but why, oh why, is the cry of a dramatic critic but infrequently heard in your columns? And where, oh where, are the [goes of yesteryear?
