Baroness visits child protection commission
BARONESS CIJMBERLEGE has paid a visit to the offices of the Salford Diocesan Child Protection Commission, based at Salford Cathedral.
Her visit formed part of the review of Lord Nolan's Programme for Action, an independent report on child protection of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
The Baroness was welcomed to the diocese by Mgr Mark Davies and to the cathedral by Canon Anthony McBride. In 2001 the Programme for Action set out 83 recommendations designed to make the Church an example of best practice in the prevention of and response to child abuse.
During the visit the Baroness and Mike Devlin, the chairman of the commission, highlighted aspects of best practice and of the work in which the staff engage to ensure the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
