Where is this Catholic revival?

DOES PAUL JOHNSON live in the real world ? His suggestion that three times as many Catholics as Anglicans are regular churchgoers is preposterous.
His vision of a "Second Spring" defies comment at a time when most of the younger generation have ceased to attend Mass before they reach an age suitable for Confirmation.
And what on earth is he talking about when he says that the services Pill7abeth I attended were "in most externals at least, the sacrifice of the Mass "?
Was not that the whole point of the 'Elizabethan Settlement,' to con our ancestors that the Protestant service was the 'real thing'?
Where does he see the growth of Catholic numbers that he speaks of as occurring in the Palace of Westmister? The three MPs who are known to have "come over" are from a party whose membership claims to be 70% practising Anglican, and is generally considered to have no chance of forming the next government ! And the lesson that he draws? That we will not go wrong so long as we "stick with exactness and resolution to the Faith of our Fathers and Mothers." A pious thought indeed, but should he not rather say "return to" than "stick with"?
Is he not aware that no RE resource used in Catholic schools mentions obligatory attendance at Sunday and Holy Day Mass?
That acceptance of Catholic moral teaching is no longer a criterion for appointment to office in the Church's infrastructure or, it sometimes seems, for entry into studies for the priesthood ?
That in many dioceses a blind eye is turned to the reception of the Blessed Sacrament by the divorcedand-remarried and those in gay relationships ?
That very rarely are those preparing for marriage taught that contraception is a grave sin ?
That divorce and abortion are little if any less frequent among Catholics than among those with no religious affiliation?
That, even so, our bishops show more concern about social wrongs for which they have no personal responsibility than for the correction of moral evil that is their more proper task? Truly, we have no grounds for complacency , no grounds for criticising others, no grounds for self-satisfaction, and most certainly no grounds for triumphalism. Hugh Fenton London SW19
I READ THE Charterhouse article by Paul Johnson in the Christmas edition. I thought the article was good until I came to the last part when he comments on homosexuality with reference to both the Anglican and Catholic Churches. I can describe those comments in one short sentence. They are supercilious and condescending. Bernard 17 Crowe
