Bishop ordained for Scottish Isles

JOSEPH TOAL has been ordained Bishop of Argil and the Isles in St Columba's Cathedral, Oban, in front of the bishops and priests of Scotland and the people of his diocese, writes Ian Dunn .
In a celebration laced with the Gaelic native to the diocese the new bishop took up his mitre and pastoral staff and pledged to "spread the gospel of life and love across our lands". The new bishop comes from the small village of Roybridge just outside Oban in the diocese.
Cardinal Keith O'Brien spoke fondly of their long friendship.
Though it could be hard to follow the Catholic faith in the modern age, the cardinal said, the new bishop should draw inspiration from local saints like St Columba of Iona.
The papal nuncio, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Mufioz, said that Bishop Teal should remember "that God loves him and is always with him".
