Adventurers in a small boat

THE CROSSING OF THE COPULA, by Jean Filloux (Collins. 12$. 6d).
SURPRISING things can happen when one answers a classified advertisement. Listen to this one: " Young adventurers dreaming of new horieons. Am offering two berths aboard my boa) for cruise round the world. Share nominal expenses."
Jean Filloux, a young French student engineer, answered it. lee found that " my boat was a 47-ft.. catamaran with the rig of a Chinese junk. This strange boat, called "Copula," with two parallel hulls joined across the middle. had been designed by a Toulouse businessman.
A group of five people-one of them the owner's wife-set sail on a 15-month voyage from Bordeaux to New York. And they took " Kon-Tiki " as a library reference book.
Their story is exciting, humorous and another example of the very individual go-aheadness of the small-boat adventurer. There are some good illustrations.
Marian Curd.
