Irish priest criticises RA men of violence

A NORTHERN Ireland priest has renewed his criticism of the bully-boy tactics of the IRA.
The remarks of Mgr Denis Faul came just days before the province entered its worst crisis since the peace process began, after the arrest and the detention of a high-ranking Sinn Fein official accused of keeping documents useful to terrorists.
Mgr Faul, of Carrickmore, County Tyrone, repeated his antipathy towards the men of terror."Hardly anybody in Northern Ireland has the courage to speak out against the republican bullets and iron bars that control Roman Catholic districts in continuous violation of the Mitchell principles," he said in a letter to a national newspaper.
"The suffering of the ordinary poor people in their ghettoised districts is terrible, because of the fear of the hooded gangsters who allow no opposition, no police, no justice. Worst of all is the fact that people in prominent positions in state and society are intimidated from condemning these outrages by name, place and date as signs of political malignancy."
