Argentines and English ordained

TWO ARGENTINES and an Englishman were among the 80 priests ordained by Pope John Paul in St Peter's on Sunday.
Thirty-two of the new priests are members of Opus Dei, including Barry Cole, a language teacher from Wallasey, Merseyside.
The Argentines ordained are Bernardo Shanley, 32, and Esteban Moszoro, 25.
Fr Moszoro is the son of Polish parents. His father came to England from Lvov in Poland (now taken over by Russia) in 1941 and served in the Allied army as an engineer un I e en of the war.
His mother escaped from Lvov in the Spring of 1945 and came to England where she met and married Mr Moszoro. They then emigrated to Argentina.
In his homily, the Pope told the ordinands: "You are about to receive a participation in the power of Christ. May the spirit of God guide you, sustain you with his witness in your spirit, because you have received the spirit of adopted sons, through which you are able to cry out 'Abba, Father', and you can teach this cry to others."
The President General of Opus Dei, Fr Alvaro del Portillo, was also present at the ordinations. He took part in the ceremony of the imposition of hands on the ordinands that took place immediately after the imposition of hands by the Pope.
The new Opus Dei priests come from 17 countries. Their average age is between 30 and 40 since all of them have been involved in full-time professional careers for several. years.
Among the other new priests are James Kelly, son of a Senator of Massachussets; Tom McGovern of Dublin, who worked as an electrical engineer; Zen Tanfiq from Jami, Sumatra; and the first African priest of Opus Dei, Paul Mimei from South Nyanza near Lake Victoria, Kenya.
Opus Dei is an institution of the Catholic Church, founded in 1928 by Mgr Josemaria Escriva. The founder died in Rome on June 26th, 1975 and his beatification process was begun in Rome in May 1981.
At present there are more than 70,000 members of Opus Dei of 80 nationalities. The great majority are lay people, both married and celibate. Priests account for 2 per cent of the total membership.
