Planning for St Hugh

KEITH DAY representing the Prior of the English Charterhouse has sent me the following details of celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of St Hugh's election as Bishop of Lincoln.
To prepare for the celebration of such an important anniversary, a committee has been established under the chairmanship of Canon John Nurser, chancellor of Lincoln Cathedral which includes representatives of the Prior of St Hugh's Charterhouse, Parkminster, Charterhouse School, the St Hugh of Witham Foundation (Ammerdown), St Hugh's College, Oxford, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nottingham, the Anglican Diocese of Lincoln, and the Dean and Chapter of Lincoln.
As part of its contribution to the celebtation through the ,representative of the English Charterhouse the Carthusian Order has invited Fr Hugh Clarke, 0.Carm, to act as director of a number of retreats on "Aspects of Carthusian Spirituality, Ideals and Practice". These will be held at: Edward King House, Lincoln (0522-28778), 2-4 May, 1986; Mount St Bernard Abbey, Coalville, Leicestershire (date to be arranged); The Friars, Aylesford, Maidstone, Kent, 2-6 June, 1986 approx cost per day £13; Hazelwood Castle, Tadcaster, N Yorks, 12-16 June, 1986 approx cost per day £14; Ammerdown, Radstock, Bath, 3-5 October, 1986.
The emeritus Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Rev Gordon Wheeler, will preach a sermon, on St Hugh's life as a Carthusian monk and Bishop, during Evensong at Westminster Abbey 3 pm on the eve of the anniversary of St Hugh's consecration in St Katherine's Chapel on Saturday, September 20, 1986.
