Notes for Ransomers

Farewell to Canon Daniell
Next Monday is the Feast of St. Edward, King and Confessor; the great king under whose rule England had twenty-three years of happiness, who was a saint in the midst
of a court, and a degenerate age. His shrine in Westminster Abbey, which he built out of his zeal for the Divine Honour and his devotion to St. Peter and the Holy See, is now so carefully protected by the Abbey authorities from air raidst that we cannot make our customary pilgrimage there.
But I trust that all Ransomers will add to their October devottons for peace on Monday a prayer to she beloved King and Sainted Confessor begging him to come to the aid of the land he loved and ruled so well.
London Rensomers will miss the figure of Canon Daniell from the church of SS. Anselm and Cecilia in Kingsway. The Guild's office having been in that parish for seventeen years all but two months, we have experienced his constant kindness as our parish priest. He has always most willingly helped the Guild whenever we asked him. His church was always at our disposal on our feast day and for the annual Requiem for Fr, Fletcher, he kept the annual procession going until the war made it impossible, and he always opened the big doors of the church and stood to welcome the Tyburn Walk.
HIS CHURCH WAS BLITZED The last time 1 went to him to ask his permission for Mass on the morning of our feast day, three months before the date, as we have to arrange these things a good time beforehand, he replied jokingly, " Oh ! certainly, unless we are blown to bits before Whet et we regarded as a joke then became a sad reality before the feast, as you all know, although only a part of the church was destroyed, and by his efforts the body of it is now in use again.
Amid all that is sad in that tragedy, we can at least rejoice and thank God, that the priests' lives were spared, and we are able to wish Canon Daniell ad (Hullos mows in his new position. bot.04 H. Fume's.
