ELGAR ORATORIO Performed by London Catholic Choir

The London Catholic Choir and Orchestra performed a little-known Eiger oratorio, " The Light of Life." on Wednesday of last week in the Cathedral Hall, Westminster. Gounod's " Menge Solennette " was also in the programme. " The Light of Life," though an early work and containing phrases and touches of harmony that would not have passed in Elgar's maturity, is a remarkable work which in many pieces anticipates the noble idioms of his later work.
Robert Haeberry conducted the performance, remarkable alike for blend of tone and spirit. Solos were excellently rendered by Eva Cattaneo, Joyce Newton, Andrew Clayton, and George Pizzey.
