ONE OF the country's leading Catholic schools has endorsed the launch of its own brand of boxer shorts.
The Benedictine-run Ampleforth College in Yorkshire has given the goahead for a line of Ampleforth boxer shorts, which will feature the school's motto along the fly — Dieu Le Ward or "God Guard It".
Philip Turner, director of Smart Turnout, said that his company had been producing all sorts of merchandise for the school, such as ties, cufflinks and scarves, and then came up with the idea of boxers.
"I didn't think the monks would be very chuffed with them, but Fr Jeremy who runs the school shop found them very droll," he said.
Mr Turner added that the underwear was "bound to upset one or two people", but that "generally, people rather like them".
Smart Turnout has also produced boxer shorts for other leading English public schools such as Winchester College, Bradfield College, Eton College and Radley College.
The boxer shorts cost 14.99 each.
