The Great Question

`Will Europe go Red?' says Dr. Adenauer
" wERE, it not for the Red threat, I would not be bearing the heavy burden of my office at my advanced age," said Dr. Adenauer, West German Chancellor. when he received from the Papal Nuncio in Bonn last week the insignia of the Order of the Golden Spur conferred upon him by the Holy Father on his 80th birthday.
" 1 came hack from Moscow," said Dr. Adenauer, " convinced that the great question facing us is: Will Europe remain Christian or not?
" if Europe should go Communist, then the consequences for the entire world and for the Church would be terrible."
The insignia was presented to the Chancellor by the Nuncio, Archbishop Muench, in the presence of Cardinal Frings, Archbishop of Cologne. and the German Foreign Minister, Herr von Brentano, who also is a Catholic.
Cardinal Frings said that the Holy Father sees in Dr. Adenauer one of the strongest defences against the danger of Communism and materialism.
