ST. PATRICK'S IN TOKYO IS OPENED

ToKro.
" St, Patrick, through his inspiration and with the collaboration of the Columban Fathers, is now evangelizing another island nation." Bishop Thomas J. McDonnell, U.S. National Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, declared in his sermon at the blessing of the new St. Patrick's Church, in Tokyo.
The church, the first built by the Columban Fathers in Japan, is also the first Japanese parish church dedicated to St. Patrick. The parish priest of the church is the Rev. James Doyle, from County Kildare, a nephew of the late John Cardinal Glennon, of St. Louis.
" Coming from the archdiocese of New York, whose great patron is St. Patrick, I am proud to participate in this ceremony in the first St. Patrick's Church in Tokyo," said Bishop McDonnell.
St. Patrick's parish has nearly 300 Catholics. Already 25 persons are under instruction. St. Columban priests in Japan, working in three dioceses, now number 31.
