To Commemorate Workers' Charter
The North Staffs Province of the Knights of St. Columba are busy with preparations for the Mass Meeting to be held on Sunday, May II, in the Victoria Han, Hanley, at 3 p.m., to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the issue of Pope Leo XIII
Encycl ical Rerum Novarum. Speakers will include Mr. Richard O'Sullivan, K.C., and Mr. Pat Bartley, of the Durham Miners' Association, and the chair will be taken by Mgr. B. Griffin, Auxiliary Bishop of
Birmingham. The subject for discussion will be " The Workers' Charter."
Mgr. Griffin will preach at Solemn High Mass in the morning. Meanwhile the organisers are communicating with the clergy in the neighbourhood to request their co-operation, and while the Knights are making themselves responsible for raising the cost, they are most anxious that every sodality and guild in each parish should participate to the full in the celebrations, and for this purpose a meeting is being called for Monday, April 21, to be held in St. Dominic's Hall, Knowle Street, Stoke, at 730, at which their delegates are invited to attend with their parochial clergy.
