St Columba’s college creates a space for prayer
12 March 2010

Staff and pupils will be able to pray and take time to reflect at St Columba’s college prayer sanctuary
St Columba’s College Preparatory School in St Albans in Hertfordshire has created a space called the prayer sanctuary to offer pupils and staff the opportunity to spend time in prayer and reflection. The school community are creating some artwork to represent each individual, under the heading “Growing in Faith”.
Mary Shannon-Little, academic deputy, said: “We are a learning community, with high academic standards as our hallmark. We always keep in mind that academic, personal and spiritual growth all work together to form a true Columban.”
St Columba’s College is an independent Catholic day school for boys. It was founded by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, an order established in post-revolutionary France by Fr André Coindre (1787-1821), a priest of Lyon.
In 1848 the brothers established their first overseas mission, an orphanage in Mobile, Alabama, in the US. They came to England and purchased St Columba’s in 1955 from its headmaster Philip O’Neill.
