Archbishop inspires students

Archbishop Nichols with Kevin Burke, head teacher at Gunnersbury School
A Catholic school in west London has been honoured by a visit by Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Westminster. Gunnersbury School celebrated its annual speech day on February 11 and the Archbishop was guest speaker.
Also present were Councillor Paul Lynch, mayor of Hounslow, and Kevin Burke, headteacher.
The body of students received prizes marking their achievements over the academic year. They were honoured that Archbishop Vincent Nichols was awarding the prizes.
A spokesman for the school said: "The Archbishop was inspirational as he spoke to a packed audience within the school hall.
"Archbishop Nichols's praise for Gunnersbury Catholic school emboldened the motivation and aspirations of pupils and staff alike as they strive for future successes." During the evening the school celebrated pupils' successes in their public examinations.
Gunnersbury sixth-formers are leaving to study a variety of subjects at university, including economics, politics, engineering, law, medicine and dentistry.
Year 13 students were pleased with their results. For example Jack Healy achieved five A grades; Nathanael Young achieved four A grades, Jodie Parker, Rebekah Phiri and Jason Robles achieved three A grades and one B grade; Maggie Molloy achieved three As and one B grade; Kenneth Ellis, John Kane, Louis Edozie, Rose Kumagai, Fadi Michael, Theo Ojideh, Nicky Parris, Mike Sanni, Glen Williams and Haydn St Louis achieved three A grades.
There were also successes at AS level for Year 12 students. Alex Probodziak gained five A grades, Jack Bradley four A grades, Robert Rampton and Michael Hopkins three A and one B grade, Joan-Manuel Cerda, Daryl Finch and Gurmeet Kaur two A and two B grades.
