Six Catholic students from St Bede's College near Manchester have been given conditional offers to study at Oxbridge colleges next year.

Philippe Lopeman, head boy, and Zoe Li, head girl, have been offered places at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, to read Law, and St John's College, Cambridge, to read Medicine, respectively. James Crewdson also hopes to read Medicine at Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge.

Patrick Cavanagh has a place to read Physics at Jesus College, Oxford, and Kirsty Flanagan hopes to read French and Ancient Greek at St Hugh's College, Oxford. Michael Olayinka, who achieved straight A grades in his A-levels last summer, will also take up his place to read Economics at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, this September.

Zoe, who gained an A-level in Chinese two years ago, said: "I am really amazed that I have received an offer and feel very happy."
