12 February 2010

Sarah Conrad, headmistress of New Hall preparatory school in Essex, hands a cheque to Sean O'Leary of Cafod

Students at New Hall School in Chelmsford, Essex, have been busy for the past week raising funds for Cafod to support the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

At both senior and preparatory school assemblies recently Sean O'Leary, a representative from the charity Cafod, collected cheques which totalled over £3,000.

Cafod has been supporting the relief effort in Haiti and has raised over £1.2million in the last two weeks. All money donated will help supply water, food, medicines and shelter to the worst-affected areas.

Students were asked to bring in £2 for the appeal but many students chose to give more or to organise special fundraising activities. Plaudits to Year 7 student Isabelle Davies who raised £123 for the Haiti appeal by selling cakes and biscuits during break and lunchtimes.

She decided to do this after seeing the news reports about the devastation following the earthquake.
